We Need a New Blog Title

Which is something my dear friend, Kris, pointed out to me months ago before we even left England. However, I haven't been able to be bothered with it until now. Too much going on.

So, I am appealing to my much cleverer family and friends to help me come up with a new name for our blog. In the back of my mind I think if I can't come up with a good name for it, I can't keep blogging. Which - well, might be okay.

So let's hear it!

On the Homefront

When we left our home in Maryland, we were ready. We were ready for an adventure, and an adventure we had. We will forever look back on those three years and be grateful for all we were blessed to be able to see and do.

Now, we are home. Back to the nearly 100 year-old house we own and love. For all its faults and drawbacks, we love our house. The year before we left, we renovated the kitchen and added on to the back of the house. There were several projects we wanted to accomplish once we returned home.

It was hard having renters in our home. We are grateful for the families who lived in our home and loved it as we do - or, if they didn't love it as we do, they cared for it as if they did! Thank you!

So, once we returned back to the US, we determined to purchase a new dishwasher. And a new tumble dryer. So thankful for Sears and KitchenAid.

The biggest project we wanted to get through, though, was a renovation of the upstairs bathroom. The first step was to have the wood floor re-done. Our house is full of beautiful original pine floors, and the previous owners decided it would be best to paint some of them. So, upstairs, the bathroom floor was painted a cream color. Also, our bedroom was painted a royal blue. Because of the royal blue in our bedroom, years ago we put carpet in. We decided, after we returned home, that we were going to try to have the paint stripped - it was worth the cost, to us, even if it didn't turn out. Well, much to our delight, it turned out! Isn't it beautiful?

Okay, so now on to before pics of the bathroom. The shower was tiny and plastic and gross. It has not been cleaned in these photos, so viewer beware. It is totally EW. So this is a photo of the shower. Yes, gross. The following photo is a picture of the shower having been removed, but you can see the painted floor:After picture:
We decided we wanted a tile shower, so we hired a tile-guy recommended to us by our friend and neighbor - who also happens to be fantastic at working on our house, too. The tile-guy was brilliant. He was full of ideas and hard workers. Check it out:This is a picture of the rough-in of the shower basin, shower dry-wall, and a new sink/basin that we have installed.
In these two photos you can sort of see the new tile back splash behind the claw-foot tub, and you can most certainly see the new tile shower. Aaaahhhh. Can't wait to use it!
Check out the awesome new tile basin:

So, last week we had a plumber come out and install the shower head, etc, and also reinstall the tub hardware. Patrick painted the bathroom and installed a new light fixture as well as a new beautiful medicine cabinet/vanity. I need to take photos of those. We have had a shower door installer out to measure for our new shower doors, and those should be installed within the coming week. More pictures/updates to follow!

In the meantime, we are enjoying being home. We love being home.

Still Saying Goodbye

Aidan loves his new room, new Star Wars sheets and big boy bunk-bed, but he still misses his house in England. Today I asked him if he still misses his house in England, and he said he doesn't remember it too much, but he does remember the gahden, and he misses the gahden. Goodbye, Charlton Close.
